Wellington Airport southwest pier now open again
Wellington Airport’s southwest pier has re-opened following a fire incident on 12 June.
Wellington Airport chief executive Matt Clarke says the northern pier has been handling all jet flights for the last few weeks.
“We’ve been able to re-arrange gates for the last few weeks and handle all scheduled flights but it’s great to have gates 13 to 16 back open again to relieve pressure on the northern pier.
“Staff and contractors have been working around the clock to repair smoke and water damage and minimise any disruptions for travellers.”
The southwest pier is largely used for domestic Air New Zealand jet flights.
Gate 17 will remain temporarily closed for further repair work.
The Air New Zealand Domestic Lounge remains temporarily closed due to smoke and water damage. The airline is working on a timeline for re-opening, and the Regional Lounge remains open with temporary restrictions in place. More information is available here.
