Qantas A220 makes international debut in Wellington
The Qantas Group’s next-generation Airbus A220 aircraft has landed in Wellington (2 February), marking the first time Qantas operates the leading-edge aircraft type on an international route.
The aircraft will fly up to three times a week between Wellington and Brisbane and brings a new level of passenger comfort and efficiency to trans-Tasman travel.
Compared to previous generation aircraft, it offers up to 50 per cent noise footprint reduction and up to 25 per cent less fuel burn. The A220 also has a longer range than the aircraft it is replacing, creating more route possibilities and travel options as the fleet grows.
The A220 is part of the Qantas Group’s historic fleet renewal program, with more than 200 new aircraft on order, providing customers with improved comfort, efficiency and reliability.
QantasLink recently took delivery of its 11th A220, with four more expected to join the fleet by the middle of the year. The aircraft’s key features include:
• Space for 137 passengers across two cabins designed by leading Australian designer David Caon, with 10 Business seats in a 2-2 configuration and 127 seats in Economy in a 2-3 configuration.
• The largest windows of any single aisle aircraft and a cabin with a greater sense of space. • Fast, free Wi-Fi, allowing customers to stay connected.
• An integrated personal device holder and USB A and C charging in both Economy and Business, with additional wireless charging pads in Business.
• Reduction in noise footprint and reduced fuel burn compared to previous generation aircraft.
The introduction of the A220 into Wellington continues the airline’s investment in New Zealand, following the opening of its new refurbished Auckland Lounge in December, the launch of flights from Auckland to Perth and the announcement of Auckland to Gold Coast flights which are set to take off in May.
