New electric bus depot

18 May 2022

We are building an electric bus charging facility to support the new airport bus service, along with a rental car storage area.

This work is taking place on Kauri Street at the site of the old Miramar South School which closed in 2012.

This work will take place from April 2022 to December 2022, during which time the new Airport Express service will commence (July 2022).

The new depot will provide overnight bus changing capabilities, driver amenities and vehicle wash down facilities.  This 10-bus depot is expected to be the first fully electric depot in New Zealand.

As well as the depot, several planned projects on the current airport site mean we need to move some rental car parks over to this site.

Site works including removal of existing former residential buildings on site. The former kindergarten building has been refurbished and is being used for support services.

The site is being carefully designed to ensure the boundary presents a green and attractive space, with fences and hedges to also keep noise levels down. The new buildings are designed to keep a low profile and will be set back at least five metres from the boundary.
