Sustainability Manager

About the role

This role requires dynamic and innovative leader that is dedicated to the role of refining and implementing the long-term sustainability strategy for Wellington Airport and delivering innovate sustainable development projects.

Your experience and your unique skill set will be fully utilised as you develop, lead and deliver on a range of high profile projects that will make a tangible difference across Wellington Airport and also serve to champion and promote the airports sustainability strategy and its social licence to operate.

Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Affairs, you will:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and promote and embed Wellington Airport’s sustainability program and initiatives.
  • Monitor and respond to relevant government documents and initiatives, and lead Wellington Airport’s submissions and responses
  • Lead Wellington Airport’s Environmental, Social and Governance reporting and climate-related risk disclosures
  • Implement and refine Wellington Airport’s sustainability objectives, strategy and policy
  • Influence strategic direction to ensure sustainability objectives are worked into project planning, short-term and long-term infrastructure developments
  • Develop and refine the Airport’s resilience and mitigation strategy that enables Wellington Airport to successfully adapt to climate-related risks
  • Be an internal advocate for sustainability and social responsibility ensuring the Airport community and local stakeholders have the information, understanding and resources to meet agreed sustainability targets
  • Drive Wellington Airport’s long-term sustainability strategy and achieve ambitious reductions in waste, water use and carbon emissions
  • Work with airlines and external stakeholders on exciting next-generation technology
  • Responsible for promoting the Airport’s sustainability efforts and be a champion for social responsibility

About you

You have:

  • 7+ years’ experience in a relevant field desirable
  • The ability to understand, develop and present material in a simple and influential manner
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A collaborative nature, with influencing skills to facilitate outcomes across cross-functional teams

You can:

  • Work under pressure and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Collect and manage data and be competent in analytics and the compilation of reports
  • Plan, organize and prioritise work. 
  • Confidently present to a range of audiences

Ideally, you have:

  • Strong data analytics and reporting capability
  • Working knowledge of GRESB and related ESG and sustainablity tools and measures
  • Experience with managing consultants

As part of our standard pre-employment requirements, you must be able to obtain security clearance from Aviation Security Services, complete a Ministry of Justice background check, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and pass a drug/alcohol test.
