Fiji Airways launches new Boeing 737 MAX 8

20 Dec 2018

Fiji Airways is the first airline to bring the brand new single-aisle Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to New Zealand for its inaugural flight from Wellington to Nadi today.

The new aircraft is more fuel efficient, has sleek modern cabin interiors and new amenities including seatback inflight entertainment and Wi-Fi, leather seats, larger overhead luggage storage and reduced cabin noise. All while minimising their impact on the environment.

Mr. Andre Viljoen, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO says “We’re pleased to announce that Fiji Airways is the first airline to bring the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 to New Zealand. We’re genuinely excited to be able to combine the state-of-the-art features of the MAX 8 with our world-renowned Fijian hospitality on board, giving passengers from New Zealand more than just a comfortable flight to Fiji.”

Wellington Airport Chief Executive Steve Sanderson says “We’re sure business and leisure passengers will love this exciting new aircraft and its enhanced features. The new Boeing 737 MAX 8 provides a fantastic direct flight option for those travelling from Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.”

At only three hours away, Fiji is a perennially popular destination for Kiwi’s and demand for the direct service has grown strongly since Fiji Airways introduced its Wellington to Nadi service back in 2015.

With so many Kiwi’s looking to Fiji as a holiday destination, Fiji Airways have made it their priority to enable Kiwis to travel all year round by providing flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch all year round – the only airline to do so in New Zealand.

Fiji Airways’ new Boeing 737 MAX 8’s inaugural flight departs from Wellington International Airport to Nadi today on Thursday, 20 November. The Fijian National Carrier also provides international connections from Nadi to destinations like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and the Pacific with stopover packages in Fiji.
