Travelling with batteries

13 Jan 2021

If you’re planning to travel soon, please note new rules were introduced on 1 January 2021 which change the way you can transport batteries on flights:

  • You can no longer carry loose or spare batteries in your checked luggage – this includes batteries in their original retail packaging
  • You can only carry a maximum of 20 loose or spare batteries of any type in your carry-on luggage, unless your airline has given you approval to carry more
  • All batteries must be individually protected either by retail packaging, an individual bag, a protective pouch, or with tape placed over exposed terminals.

For more information, visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website.
