The Shed Project win Kapiti Community Awards

Congratulations to the Wellington Airport Regional Community Award Winners for Kapiti that were announced last night.

The Supreme Award went to The Shed Project Kapiti, who provide training and employment opportunities for local disabled and disadvantaged people. From their hub in their big ‘shed’ in Paraparaumu they run community enterprises to create employment and training opportunities, organise social and fundraising events, and foster community well-being.

  • Winner – Maoriland Hub
  • Runner Up – Waikanae Music Society Inc

Education & Child/Youth Development category

  • Winner – The Shed Project Kapiti
  • Runner Up – Kapiti Youth Achievement Trust

Health & Well-Being category

  • Winner – Champions of Kapiti
  • Runner Up – Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade

Heritage & Environment category

  • Winner – Low Carbon Kapiti
  • Runner Up – Greendale Reserve Volunteers

Sport & Leisure category

  • Winner - The Web Genius Kapiti Run for Youth (KR4Y)
  • Runner Up - Otaki Golf Club (Junior Section)

Rising Star Award

  • Winner - Little Sprouts Kapiti Branch
  • Runner Up - Cobblers

The winning community groups from Kapiti will join winners from around the region for the Regional Award finals in mid-November.

Every year, Wellington International Airport, Wellington Community Trust, and the five local councils come together to recognise the work carried out by community groups in the wider Wellington region.
