Airport now open after earthquake

21 July 2013

The size of the earthquake this evening meant the Airport needed to undertake a full runway and navigational aid inspection, as part of standard operating procedure.

The runway was closed during the inspection and was cleared for operation by 5.55pm, with a number of aircraft being able to operate shortly afterwards. All navigational aids were cleared by 7.30pm. Some flights requiring specific navigational aids were cancelled or delayed during this inspection period.

Please check with airlines or on the Wellington Airport website for the current status of your flight.
