Innovative mobile responsive website from Wellington Airport

19 July 2012

Wellington Airport has created an incredibly user friendly mobile responsive website for travellers which is quick to load and provides live flight information. It went live on Wednesday 18 July.

“The new design is very smart. It gives everyone with a smartphone or laptop access to live flight information updated by the airlines in real time. The days of waiting and wondering will be over with direct public access to the most up to date information available. On the site you can see scheduled and estimated flight arrival times along with the gate number and flight status,” said Matt Clarke, Wellington Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“Coupled with the free wireless access provided by the airport, we think it is a great service for travellers and it will keep everyone up to date with,” said Mr Clarke.

A unique attribute of both, the airport’s mobile and primary website, is its public announcement banner option.

Matt Clarke said  “when passengers are affected by a disruption such as the recent fog event, the airport can immediately load an emergency banner on the homepage that quickly informs the user about the event and links them directly to further information.”

“We built the mobile site to be incredibly lightweight and quick to load” said Alan Doak, General Manager of Springload.

“The big benefit to the user of the mobile website is that, unlike smartphone applications, there is nothing to download and you don’t need to remember a different URL. We are super happy with the result and it uses a lot of common code from the primary website” said Alan Doak.

Other features include airport maps, contact information, the ability to book and guarantee a car park space, plus the latest retail specials.
